Some background of the Fisherman´s concept 

The entrepreneurs behind the consept of Fisherman’s is a couple Ben and Disa Henriksson.

Ben Henriksson started to sell fish from the back of his van in the spring of 1988. Trade was done in Ruotsinpyhtää and its' neighbouring communes. At first it was mainly baltic herring products that he sold. Soon after that the old salt storage in Ahvenkoski was repaired and it became a fish store.

Year 1990 Ben and Disa Henriksson established the Strömfors Fisk Ltd. as the former fish store was changed to limited company. The summer seasons were busy due to many summer time inhabitants in the area. Big changes happened in the year of 1993 when Russian tourist operators started the bus trips to the west. The Russians happen to be big fans of fish products so in 1994 hundreds of russian tourists at a time were seen on the yard of Ahvenkoski fish store.

In 1994 two new companies were established by Ben and Disa Henriksson. Ruukin Kala Ltd. was operating as a fish bunch and the manufacturing hall was in Ruukki area in Ruotsinpyhtää. The other company Ahvenkosken Kalasavustamo Ltd. was operating as a retail trade shop in Ahvenkoski. Strömfors Fisk Ltd was changed to a holding company.

In 1995 the flood of russian tourists was growning and the fish shop employed several workers. A year later Strömfors Fisk Ltd. started a construction of a new manufacturing hall in Tesjoki in Ruotsinpyhtää. The new hall was completed in January 1997 and rented to Ruukin Kala Ltd.

In 1997 the new fish store was built near the manufacturing hall in Tesjoki. The new store Disa's Fish was named after Bens wife. Tsaarin Terassi Ltd. was established the same year.

There was a rapid growth in sales of Ruukin Kala company in the beginning of the 21st century. Hundreds of thousands of kilos of fish was processed and sold every year. Ben Henriksson was managing the bunch section employing ten workers. Disa Henriksson was the manager of the store section.

In 2002 Ben and Disa Henriksson were rewarded with a local entrepreneure prize. Next year they were rewarded again this time with a national prize for young entrepreneures. During the same year Ruukin Kala Ltd. bought the company of Kuusisen Kala Ltd from it`s owner Jyrki Lindemark. The name of Ruukin Kala Ltd was changed to Kuusisen Kala Ltd.

In 2003 The retail section of Ahvenkosken Kalasavustamo Ltd., the bunch section of Ruukin Kala Ltd. and the name of Kuusisen Kala Ltd. was sold to former workmen of Ruukin Kala Ltd. Jyrki Lindemark and Martti Tepponen.

Strömfors Fisk Ltd is the current owner of all facilities renting them to Kuusisen Kala Ltd.

In 2003 Traarin Terassi Ltd. bought the vessel Tsaaritar. This was the beginning of the sea cruising activities on the Gulf of Finland and the trips to Estonia. In 2005 a bigger vessel Seastar was taken into use.

Fisherman's Food Ltd. was established in 2004. In the beginning the company had fish fastfood restaurants in Porvoo, Tesjoki and Lappeenranta. Soon it consentrated on canned fish products.

Fisherman's Adventures consentrates on creating marine style activities and experiences like the sea cruises.
